Specification of Works in Respect of the Provisions of Approved Document Part G Sanitation, Hot Water Safety and Water efficiency 2010 Version
All provision for sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency will be in accordance with Approved Document G 2010 edition.
There will be a suitable installation for the provision of wholesome water to every place where drinking water is drawn off.
Wholesome or softened wholesome water will be provided to any washbasin or bidet in or adjacent to a room containing a sanitary convenience, or to a washbasin, bidet, fixed bath or shower in a bathroom.
Wholesome water will be provided to any sink in a kitchen or other food preparation area
A calculation will be provided at design stage to indicate that the potential consumption of wholesome water by persons occupying the dwelling, will not exceed 125 litres per person per day, calculated in accordance with the methodology of “The Water Efficiency Calculator for new dwellings” document.
A final certificate of water consumption will be provided to the local authority not later than five days after the work has been completed.
The hot water system , including any cistern or other vessel that supplies water to or receives expansion water from a hot water system, will be designed, constructed and installed so as to resist the effects of temperature and pressure that may occur either in normal use or in the event of such malfunctions as may be reasonably anticipated, and will be adequately supported.
If the hot water system has a hot water storage vessel, it will incorporate precautions to prevent the temperature of the water stored in the vessel at any time exceeding 100deg C, and ensure that any discharge from safety devices will be safely conveyed to where it is visible but not cause a danger to persons in or about the building.
The hot water supply to a fixed bath will be provided via a thermostatically controlled mixer tap or other approved device incorporating measures to ensure that the delivered water temperature will not exceed 48deg C
Any external tap or device providing water for garden/outdoor use will either use wholesome water or water from another source such as an approved rainwater harvesting system, in which case, an indelible notice will be fixed adjacent to the tap or device indicating that it is “not drinking water”.
